Hit the button if you please I think I'm going up now to find me some peace What's your name son and where you from? I think I did a gig there once when I was young There was a cafe filled with books You could smoke a cigarette without getting look And all the people were happy to talk, talk awhile You could say hey to a stranger and end up walking, walking for miles It's good to see you It's good to be seen It's good to see you Are you working or are you playing or are you just running away I've done more than my fair share of all the above Most of it fueled by some confusing version of love And when reason and the bottom fell out I should have paid more attention to the voice that needed to shout It's good to see you It's good to be seen It's good to see you It's good to be seen Say Mister don't I know you from that show last night You were beating those drums and holding on to the ride of your life I've got more miles behind me with less and less on the books They've been selling me that view my whole life Figured I'd go take a look

In a farmhouse parlor draped with gold curtains An old Texan's guitar drifts out from the speaker The wallpaper stares while whistles from a window accompany the voices that left long ago On an old refrigerator taped newspaper clippings Of cousins and grandkids and a famous 'used to be' There's a handwritten letter folded up on the table With the overdue bills and the outgoing mail It's what was handed down that decorates this tomb Borderline Origami folded into the room When the lie becomes gospel it's hard to refute Borderline Origami you did the best that you could It gets hard to breathe in this air of denial Forgetting doesn't work well anymore For the child who gave up and stopped sending pictures It was easier to just move along She had made the child a reason to stay in this world The singer felt cheated when he finally came to know Now the distance increases and the pain has grown cold It was all in a letter never sent long ago It's what was handed down that decorates this tomb Borderline Origami folded into the room When the lie becomes gospel its hard to refute Borderline Origami you did the best that you could Borderline Origami you did the best that you could Borderline Origami you did the best that you could

Census 04:00
What do you mean my credits no good? I filled the forms out like you said I should I looked you in the eye and stayed in my chair You say your sorry then pretend to care You know I work twice as hard as you Nothing to prove it's because I have to No room for error and no room to fail I'm just a child of God and not the one that's pale I'm tired I'm tired of trying to be seen In your eyes Like another human being While we're at it what's this law you passed The one to keep us from breaking glass It seems to me like your on the run Trying to keep ahead of a setting sun I'm tired I'm tired of trying to be seen In your eyes Like another human being You count the families and you count the towns You count the names you can still pronounce Change some rules to move the party lines Blame it on the left and you call it your right I'm tired I'm tired of trying to be seen In your eyes Like another human being

Layover 04:28
Fell asleep during takeoff and dreamed a thousand dreams Some unfinished business Some pleasant and some serene Came to on a crosswind stared out across the wing If this bird could fly forever it'd be all right with me Layover I'm just passing thru Stayover Don't mind if I do The Captain mentions something We're still looking for a gate Think I'll call up an angel She won't mind if I'm late Layover I'm just passing thru Stayover Don't mind if I do

When your young you choose a story And read it over and over again When your done you see a picture Your telling tales and making sounds with your hands What is not to love What is not to love about a flower When your happy you steal a moment And play it over and over again When your done you wish for more More than you need and bribe yourself with big plans What is not to love What is not to love about a flower When your sad the world comes crashing down Like a rainstorm soaking you through Makes you heavy drying takes a long long time When you grow What you see are all new pictures Like the ones you thought up long ago You know the ones the ones that dried up Still in a book piled on the floor What is not to love What is not to love about a flower What is not to love What's not to love about a flower

Thrills 04:46
I've been flying way too close to the ground Like an angel or a hawk going down for a kill I'm just a thrill or two away from the end Your the first one that I called And the last one that I hoped would see through it all I've been drifting through the halls of your heart Like the Starling shift and waltz Straight past the speed of sound Your the first one that I called And the last one that I hoped would see through it all I'm a hurricane in the passing line I've been cheating doom with no breathing room I'm a hurricane in the passing lane I've been cheating doom with no breathing room I've been flying way to close to the sun A burning angel who found their way into a psalm I'm just a thrill or two away from the end Your the first one that I called And the last one that I hoped would see me fall I'm a hurricane in the passing lane I've been cheating doom with no breathing room I'm a hurricane in the passing lane I've been cheating doom with no breathing room I'm a hurricane in the passing lane I've been cheating doom with no breathing room

Some days are like a sentence Some days are like a gift Every day we take our chances Measure the fall and hope for a lift Somehow we all show up for each other And convince ourselves its all for the best I've spent my life spinning tires Different jobs and a little college I pay the bills and remember the highlights Thank my stars when the weekend arrives Somehow the TV, boxes and clutter Remind us all we need more and more To fill up the distance in between us And pacify this hungry lie There's a sign on the highway selling me Jesus Another sign is selling me guns I want to know what lies between them The lottery jackpot or an exit to run Somehow love keeps pulling me backwards Into a life filled with little comforts Where I can sit and dream of something That takes away all of my doubt

Robbery 03:49
Rogue waves fell one after the other Filled our lungs and held us under It was so hard to breathe Like a robbery of the strangest kind A loss of blood and beautiful minds We were left holding the bag Heavy days like heavy does Numb to the numbers with no help from above I see the signs all over the lawns The news was endless you couldn't unsee it We watched the country break on our little TV's The blues was back but was it ever really gone? And down on palm screen street where the zombies meet Scalping tickets to scrollers and low brow trollers Step right up and watch the truth die Heavy days just like heavy does Numb to the numbers with no help from above I see the signs all over the lawns Me, I'm in my cups With one good crutch looking over my shoulder I'm singing for my supper

Gift 06:44
Hanging out with myself makes me kind of nervous A long look at this face puts me out of service All the things I've said and done right from the start Became a regimen deep inside my heart Your gift is that you lift All of this weight off my shoulders Now we pass through the days like old friends stuck in our ways Talk is light while we both have lots we need to say All the things we've said and done to play the part Became a sediment deep within our heart Your gift is that you lift All this weight off of my shoulder Your gift is that you lift All this weight off of my shoulder I don't have the patience to stay so stationed I don't have the time to read between the lines We lost our way somewhere in the cold day to day We hold on tight to what we've made trying to preserve love Letting go of all the weight that came before us Your gift is that you lift All of this weight off of my shoulder Your gift is that you lift All of this weight off of my shoulder Your gift is that you lift Your gift is that you lift Your gift is that you lift Your gift is that you lift

The space between the head and the heart is a lonely place to be A solitary penitentiary I remember the sun and the birds who traced the sky We rolled around and watched them fly on by Tracking motion so Devine Echoes in the hall like sirens in the fog stories of the ones who got away Real time heartbreak decay Now I paint little scenes on the walls surrounding me Depicting life never meant for me imaginary television screens Unlocking the sun and the birds returning one by one Trace the lines of possibility slipping into spaces in between

about

In the spring of 2022, Moses approached Kris Delmhorst – an old friend and tour companion, and a musician he long admired – to help shepherd a pile of songs into the world. Observations, reflections, opinions, and love letters to the time traveled and to the people loved along the way through two and a half decades on the road. Midlife Chrysler drills down through the tension between here and gone, love and motion, music and silence, work and calling in a country where the exceptions make all the rules, and where everything feels like a racket, except music. The big mystery, the one that still brings people together.
